What sparked the idea to create Superyacht Interior Studio?

After many years of working on intense interior projects with clients and within teams, I recognised the need for a 'client centric' online space that would give seamless collaboration. My aim was to create a platform where the interior project information could efficiently be accessed because there's always someone who needs this data at any given moment: status updates, spec sheets, dimensions, and other essential information. Fostering creativity was also a priority, which led to the inclusion of interactive mood boards. Moreover, it was important to me that the platform not only function well but also look visually appealing.

It was born out of frustration and a desire to elevate the experience.. Setting up a Superyacht interior is probably one of the most enjoyable aspects for a yacht owner. It’s the “cherry on top” part of a project. This part can often get passed around certain departments and the end result can be fragmented. So the idea was to create a great space to go, to reference, to create, to visualise and to make decisions, a “studio” style space.

It had to be a space that was available anytime – anywhere. It had to solve the problem of scattered information and creation. It had to be beautiful and above all it had to be simple. It has been quite the design project in inself but we are now live. Our online studio does just that, allowing clients to share ideas, view progress, and make notes—all in one beautiful, interactive platform.

Who do you usually work with?

Our clientele is diverse, often determined by the specific project requirements. We work closely with yacht owners, their representatives, project managers, and captains on both new builds and refits. Our services integrate seamlessly with interior design teams during these projects. While design teams focus on broader aspects, we handle the practicalities, procurement details, and lifestyle elements, bridging any gaps.

Additionally, we assist yacht owners and their teams in realising a personalised vision for new yacht purchases. In these cases, a captain, client representative, broker, or management team may contact us for support.

There are occasions when an interior crew member is tasked with a significant procurement project or a bespoke solution, and they reach out to us. The nature of our collaboration varies with each project, involving most of the central team at some point. Each group brings unique needs, and our role is to unify these ideas into a cohesive vision.

What would happen if Superyacht Interior Studios were not part of a project?

A great question! Without our involvement or a service like ours , several key aspects could be compromised. Firstly, the client journey might suffer without a strong lead to manage and curate every detail, potentially losing pivotal moments. Critical elements of the interior setup could be overlooked or become fragmented. While interior designers would still create beautiful spaces, the practicalities of how those spaces are used and managed might not be fully maximised.

Without us, clients might begin to notice the impact once the yacht starts operating. Ultimately, our presence ensures that the yacht functions smoothly, lives up to the client's vision, and operates at the highest level.

Our role is to bridge the gap between design and practical application, ensuring a cohesive and luxurious onboard environment that aligns perfectly with the client's vision. Its not dissimilar to choreography, at the end, it should feel like a fluid dance; breathtaking, considered and in control.

How do you approach managing interior setups?

We start with a brief, diving deep into the client's vision and needs. From this foundation, we construct a detailed plan, ensuring every step aligns with the overall vision. Just like building a superyacht, this process involves countless intricate details, each addressed with meticulous care to bring the project to life. We employ creative techniques to illustrate and simulate the final outcome. I believe in bringing the client as close as possible to the eventual vision, ensuring it's perfectly aligned with their expectations. I use mock-ups, mood boards, and 3D SketchUp models, we also visit suppliers showrooms together —anything that clarifies the intent. The project culminates in a grand reveal, designed to fit the client as perfectly as a custom-made glove.

What makes your online interior studio stand out?

I’m not sure this has been done before in quite the same way. Our online studio is a creative hub where clients and their teams can access all details of their interior setup project. It’s efficient and user-friendly, providing real-time updates and a central place to view progress. This makes it easy for clients to stay involved and informed throughout the process. Also a key advantage is that at any point in a project, someone always needs information—whether it’s status updates, specifications, or dimensions and so on. Our ability to be “quick to give” this information is one of the key features that sets us apart.

How do you handle projects of different sizes?

No project is too big or too small because – it’s the same process for more or less spaces to consider and orchestrate. Whether it’s a major new build, a detailed refit, or smaller tasks, our commitment to quality and bespoke service remains the same. We ensure that every project, regardless of size, receives the attention it deserves.

What’s your commitment to your clients?

My top priority is to ensure an enjoyable journey for both our clients and the team. The most successful yacht projects are those with dynamic and fun personalities. We are dedicated to making the setup process not only seamless but also enjoyable. Our new studio was designed to enhance this experience, and we are committed to its growth, continuously adapting and improving as we progress.

We believe it is our collective responsibility to keep investing in our craft. Our focus is always on the end result, ensuring that every trip—whether it's the first, the 50th, or beyond—feels perfect. We also consider how the yacht will age, integrating this into our planning and design process.

What kind of feedback do you get from clients?

Our clients frequently praise our meticulous attention to detail and approach. I am pleased to share that one of my long-time clients, has consistently expressed her appreciation for my work. We've navigated some intensive projects together, making our journey an incredibly rewarding experience.

What trends are you seeing in superyacht interiors for 2024?

I can see the design trends are gravitating towards sustainability, smart technology, modular designs, and personalised luxury. Clients are increasingly interested in eco-friendly materials, innovative space utilisation, and bespoke designs that reflect their unique tastes.
